Da Vinci Code

The question on every Christian mind, should we ban it? Should we watch it? Will it uproot and destroy Christianity as we know it?

To answer the question, we have to go to the book of Gensis

8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Gensis 2:8-9 (NIV)

15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Gensis 2:15-17 (NIV)

God planted a garden and right in the middle he planted the infamous tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then he entrust Adam to take care of the trees, including the very tree that is the cause of our suffering and God told him that he could eat from every tree except that one.

I believe this question have come across everyone’s mind, why did God planted the tree in the first place when he knew that Adam going to eat from the tree and sin? If it is up to some people they would probably chop down the tree long before Adam have the chance to sin and end all the trouble before it happen! But is that really the case?

All of us who are familiar with the bible, knows this for a fact that God, our Heavenly Father is just like any father who wants the best for His children, He wanted us to be over comers, people who face challenges head on and seduce it. That’s why Satan still hangs around doing what he does!

Some people might think that the best way to protect someone is to shield him from all bad things, keep him innocence so that he will not be tempted and sin, see no evil, hear no evil say no evil. As we all know we will probably end up with a gullible, naïve, in mature person. Is that what we want? Is that what God wants?

Innocence is not Virtue! It only becomes a powerful virtue after it is being tested! Only after it have been tested with temptation and pass, it is of value to God! That’s what the tree is for! Adam fails big time! Thank God that Jesus passed with flying colors!

It is gullible to think that we could ban like “Da Vinci Code” would achieve anything, even if we succeeded in getting the authorities to ban it. It will not stop people from getting their hand on it, in face people would be so curious they would try way and means to get their hand on a copy and watch it.

It is also silly to think that a mere movie would shake or even uproot the foundation of Christianity, it thousands years of biblical history and the Almighty Himself. How little is our faith? The spirit of fear is not if God! Why do we doubt God?

In fact we should see this as a opportunity to share with people about the gospel, many believer and non believer would be so curious to find out whether what is mention in the move/book real. There is so much discussion on this since the book and movie, that there have never been so much interest in the gospel before, isn’t that a good thing? It will be easier to get people to study the bible now than before, just put the title as “Discussion on Da Vinci Code” or something like that and it be pack with people! It will be better than to launch protest or any of that sort, we are wise people with the wisdom of God, make full use of it!

Then comes the question of are we ready? Are we prepare when our friends and relative comes and approach us with all the questions? Are we ready to handle these questions? How well we know God’s word, how much truth we know? Will be lead these people the right way? If the answer is no, then maybe it’s time for you take up bible study!

Eventually whether to watch or not is up to the individual after all everyone’s faith level is different!

1 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.
Romans 14:1-3 (NK JV)

Personally, I recommend it, I will definitely watch it, because I feel that it is important for me to find out what is in the movie so that I am prepare, when people comes to me with questions.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)

Still to watch or not lies in individual’s choice, but do not give the reason as not watching because you will end up making money for the wrong people. By say this we are already doubting God, is He not the Almighty? Don’t He have the last say? Where is our faith?

Anyone who still has doubts should read the book of Daniel! Read about a man of God who is name one of the 3 man of righteous in the bible. Daniel, the chief of Magicians, born, bred and educated in the way of the Babylon, a nation of cult and worshipping of Satan of that time. A story of a man who live among all the temptations how he kept his heart pure and maintain his righteousness, who eventually turn the heart of King Nebuchadnezzar.

Today we live in a world full of temptations just like Daniel, we can choose to face it and overcome it or to bury our head in the sand, it a choice we must make.

I pray that all of us will be over comers and victorious in every challenge that the world throw at us! Amen!
