Any tips for cheap software - for editing short movies shot by digital camera?

This is real, live serendipity. I was in a park nearby the other day, on my knees trying to find an angle to photograph the miniature tree* in the middle of the picture.
When I got up, the street cleaner called me. "Do you like taking pictures?", he asked. I said yes, and wondered what he had in mind. Maybe he thought I was mad - a middle-aged woman crawling around in the flower beds - and wanted to talk soothingly to calm me down,
